Public Sector Equality Duty

At Shocklach CE Primary, we aim for our community to be cohesive – we all belong to our Shocklach family and help each other to thrive and flourish. In this way, we all live out our vision of ‘We aim high in our hearts and minds as we blossom in God’s garden’ ‘For nothing is impossible with God’ (Luke 1:37)

At Shocklach, we respect the diversity of people’s different backgrounds and circumstances, and we value the attributes of everyone. We are all special and we all have talents to share.

We expect all children to achieve and strive to ensure this is the case.

We value all God’s children – We are committed to an education that enables children to live life in all its fullness and fulfils the words of Jesus in John 10:10:“I came that they might have life, and have it abundantly.”

Valuing All God’s Children 2019

All types of discrimination and inequality will be challenged.

Our school promotes community cohesion by:

Teaching, learning and curriculum – to teach pupils to understand others, to promote common values and to value diversity, to promote awareness of human rights and of the responsibility to uphold and defend them, and to develop the skills of participation and responsible action.

Equity and excellence – to ensure equal opportunities for all to succeed at the highest level possible, removing barriers to access and participation in learning and wider activities and eliminating variations in outcomes for different groups.

Engagement and extended services – to provide a means for children, young people and their families to interact with people from different backgrounds and build positive relations, including links with different school communities locally, across the country and internationally.

Through this vision and our Equality, Diversity and Cohesion Policy (below) we show due regard to the need to achieve the objectives set out under s149 of the Equality Act 2010 which are to:

(a) eliminate discrimination, harassment, victimisation and any other conduct that is prohibited by or under the Equality Act 2010;

(b) advance equality of opportunity between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share it;

(c) foster good relations between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share it.
