Headteacher’s Welcome

I extend a very warm welcome to Shocklach Oviatt C. E. Primary School. Our small village school is set in beautiful countryside and has a long and proud history. We strive for the highest academic, artistic, sporting and social successes for our pupils, recognising and celebrating the individuality and achievements of all.

Our Christian values of respect, trust, kindness, forgiveness and friendship are at the heart of everything we do. We pride ourselves on our warm, welcoming and inclusive environment, where every child is cherished and their talents nurtured.
“Life in all its fullness“ (John 10:10) is close to our hearts at Shocklach and something we aim to ‘live out’ on a daily basis. We encourage our children to achieve their fullest selves and the highest outcomes of which they are capable, in thanks for the gifts God has given.

Strong links with St. Edith’s Church, governors, families and the local community are highly valued and help to make Shocklach such a special place in which to teach and learn.

Please contact the school office if you would like to find out more about primary education at Shocklach and I will be very happy and proud to show you around.

Mrs Cathy Davies

Executive Headteacher

At Shocklach Oviatt CE Primary school we are proud to be one of the only schools in Cheshire that offers an Early Years setting that is predominantly based in the forest. This is known as our Woodland Classroom. In this unique setting we offer the full aspects of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum whilst giving the children opportunity to explore and enjoy all that nature has to offer. The opportunities for learning outside are endless with benefits to mental health, physical development, creativity, independence and developing firm friendships.

In our setting the children are exposed to real life opportunities to problem solve, communicate and are able to let their imagination and creativity run wild in a natural setting without the limitations of four walls and a ceiling!

The term after your child turns 3 they will be warmly welcomed into our Woodland Classroom as a member of our Nursery class. All we ask from you is that they have wellies and waterproofs and are ready to have muddy fun! We guarantee they will!

To apply for a Nursery place please email or phone the school on 01829 250285.

Our Classes

Our school is arranged into 3 classes.

All children receive a very flexible and targeted education delivered by highly qualified staff, experienced in teaching children with a wide range of abilities, within a vertical class structure. Teaching is done in both ability groups and mixed ability groupings which allows ‘challenge and stretch’ and maximises the generous amount of physical space within the school.

Nursery provision is now available for the term after your child turns 3 years old. Having nursery provision in Shocklach has a positive impact on the whole school and provides a smooth transition for pupils from nursery to reception.

Hedgehogs

Our Nursery and Reception class

Our Nursery and Reception are based in our garden room, which lies in the heart of our woodland. This unique setting is where most of their learning takes place. Come rain or shine the children have access to the entire woodland classroom throughout the day.

Welcome to our a small rural school in Shocklach, near Malpas, Cheshire. We are an inclusive, suppor

Shocklach children never cease to amaze us with their creativity and imagination. They can repurpose any bit of “junk” into Something spectacular! With the warmer weather this week there seemed to be a lot of new games and happy faces at playtime. Play isn’t just a way to pass the time – it’s a child’s work, their way of exploring, learning, and making sense of the world. What might look like a mess to us is a masterpiece of imagination to them – castles, adventures, inventions, friendships in the making. Every game, every laugh, every tiny moment of play is shaping who they are and who they’ll become.

Incredibly proud of this little one who has received her Blue Peter kindness badge. Inspired by the book “The boy in the back of the class”, Esme raised money for children affected by war.

Sometimes the best lessons are the unplanned ones…As we arrived at the quarter-year fire festival, halfway between the winter solstice and spring equinox, we set out to find the first signs of spring. This took us down the road, following the baas and bleats that we could hear. Sarah invited us into the lambing shed to share the incredible moment a ewe gave birth. What an amazing way to celebrate this time of year, where even in the cold and darkness, new life and transformation is unfolding. With the best school and the most wonderful community around us, we were so lucky to share this incredible moment, asking all the important questions from the birth process to, of course, can we see your tractor? and can we meet your dogs? A huge thank you to Sarah the farmer for this unforgettable experience! (And sorry to Mrs Gilbert’s long trousers and nice boots after being dragged out along with us 🫣) #eyfsoutdoors #eyfs #inthemomentplanning #imbolc #waldorfinspired #seasonalchange #understandingtheworld
